University of Cincinnati Will Return Scholarships to Swimming and Diving

On March 19th the University of Cincinnati announced that it would be reinstating full scholarships to men’s swimming and diving as well as two other sports programs.  The scholarships will return for the 2013-2014 season through increased commitments from athletic donors through the 110% Campaign.  UC’s head football coach Tommy Tuberville pledge $300,000 to the fund, helping kick off the campaign.

The University of Cincinnati had its most successful season during the 2009-2010 year when Senior Josh Schneider won the 50 freestyle at the NCAA Championships.  Also during that year the University cut scholarships for the men’s cross country, track and field and swimming and diving teams in order to balance finances within Title IX regulations.  Alumni tried to raise enough money to provide scholarships to the team, but were unable to reach their goal.  The team continued to exist and compete, but without scholarship opportunities.
